The North Wales Borderlands region between Chester and Snowdonia falls naturally into different areas each with its own scenery and character. Wrexham is a busy centre of commerce; Llangollen and the Dee Valley area has wonderful scenery and attractions and activities in the pretty town of Llangollen; The Maelor has picturesque villages and the Bangor-on-Dee Racecourses; Chirk and the Ceiriog Valley where the Marcher castle guards the entrance to the Berwyn Mountains; The Vale of Clwyd, a broad valley with gentle slopes and fascinating towns including Ruthin and Denbigh; The Clwydian Hills awarded Area of Outstanding Beaty status; The Dee estuary a silvery spread of tidal estuary.

For those wishing to relax and unwind there are many fine pub & restaurants in the area including the nearby Boat Erbistock restaurant situated in an idyllic setting by the River Dee. There are also many pretty country villages and impressive castles and historic houses to visit.
For the more energtic the Borderlands is unsurpassed walking country, has many rivers to fish as well as golf and whitewater activities.

Walks in beautiful scenery
You could not wish for better walking country. Walks include trails in market towns; well marked paths in country parks; exploring beautiful countryside and long distance walks including Offa's Dyke.

Erddig (National Trust) is a delightful house with elegant interiors and is within 1 mile of The Willows.
Castles inlcude Chirk (NT); Denbigh; Rhuddlan and Ynys Bran, Llangollen
Golf
There are many excellent golf courses in the area including Wrexham Golf Club; Chirk Golf Centre; Clays Golf Club; De Vere Country Golf Park, Vale of Llangollen Golf Club.
Racecourses
At Bangor-on-Dee (3 miles) and Chester (15 miles).

Fishing
Many visitors come to the area for salmon and see-trout in the River Dee and River Clwyd; coarse fishing in many lake fisheries and good fishing in the Dee estuary.
Cycling
Cyclists can enjoy an increasing network of cycle routes.
Canal Activities
Boat rides from Trevor to Chirk and horsedrawn rides from Llangollen.
Horse Riding
There are many rding schools in the area and the Wynnstay hunt is based near The Willows.
Llangollen
This most interesting town has many attractions and activities including the International Music Eisteddfod held each July.

Chester
An historic city with links to Roman times. Excellent shopping facilities that can be accessed from the world famous Rows - a covered pedestrian area that dates back to the time of Elizabeth I. |
Snowdonia National Park
The wonderful scenery and many tourist attractions within the park are all within an easy drive. |
Beaches
The beaches of Rhyl and Prestatyn are less than one hour away. |
